It can all get a bit confusing, but we're here to help clarify which stones are used in jewellery making so you can make informed decisions when buying.
Precious Stones
These are naturally occurring minerals mined from deep within the Earth. They are very rare and costly to extract and therefore very expensive. This category consists of diamonds, rubies, emeralds and sapphires. You usually find jewellery with these stones at expensive jewellery stores like Browns and American Swiss for example.
Cubic Zirconia
These are man-made diamond simulants. Lab-created crystalline zirconium dioxide is a synthetic gemstone, possessing the same physical, optical and chemical properties as naturally occurring zircons. All That Glitters uses these in our jewellery.
Zircons
Zircon is one of the oldest naturally occurring gemstones in the world, even older than diamonds. They are popular due to their astounding optical splendour that resembles a diamond. They are more expensive than cubic zirconia.
